Career Services

Workforce Connections is an employment program. We offer a wide range of services to job seekers. Our goal is to get you back to work. To participate in our programs, please attend one of our information sessions. Our information sessions for English speakers are held Mondays at 9AM-12PM and Thursdays at 1PM-4PM. We hold a different information session for our English as a Second Language (ESL) Wednesdays at 1:30PM-3:30PM. See a calendar here

During the information session, you can enroll in our program and find out about job search workshops, career assessment, the career center, and other services that will lead you to a job.

JOB SEARCH WORKSHOPS

  Resumes and Strategies Workshop- Learn types of resumes that are appropriate for the industry you've targeted and strategies for an effective job search. This workshop is held on Mondays at 1:30PM. See a calendar here

  Career Mapping - This workshop is a two part, two hour workshop (four hours total) that helps identify skills, interests, and abilities as well as resources for career change. Held the third Thursday and Friday of every month. See a calendar here.

  Interview Workshop - This is a two hour workshop that we hold weekly on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30AM. Learn types of interviews you are likely to encounter, types of questions that you could be asked, and suggestions for answers to the typical interview question.

  OLMIS Workshop - Discusses the value of information in career planning. How to use OLMIS to gather information regarding occupations, industries and the general labor market conditions that can impact career planning. Once a month on the second Thursday of the month. See a calendar here 

  Employer Panels -Employers present information about their current openings, hiring practices, interview styles, etc. Don't miss the opportunity to network with Human Resources staff from Portland's most sought after employers. Read here why we believe it's important to attend these events.

  Mature Workers Group - Support and Job Search Networking for individuals over 50 years of age. We meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 1:30. See a calendar here

  Information Session - We hold three of these every week. Our in house session for native English speakers is Mondays at 9AM and Thursdays at 1PM. Our session for non-native English speakers (ESL) is Wednesdays at 1:30PM. 

CAREER CENTER

The Career Center serves as a professional workplace for your job search. You can access a multitude of job orders from the Portland Metropolitan and surrounding areas. The Career Center also offers computer and Internet access for job search. You may use the Career Center library that is filled with job search reference materials, local newspapers and information on the current labor market. Participants can also use the telephones, photocopy and fax machines in their job search.

CAREER PATHWAYS TRAININGS
Career Pathway trainings let students obtain entry-level occupational training in one or two terms.  These trainings provide instruction in technical, professional, business, and vocational skills for a variety of occupations, as well as the career planning skills necessary to maintain employment. A Career Pathway is a unique educational system of connected courses and enhanced support services that enables students at all levels of preparedness to achieve their educational and career goals. Students can upgrade their skills by combining college and work to progress to better jobs and higher levels of education. Career Pathways create educational stepping stones for advancement of workers and job seekers.  As such, Career Pathways ensure that investment in education and training will pay off in enhanced economic development.  Click here to see what our current offerings are.

Assistive Technology.

  • JAWS software for the blind
  • WYNN Reader software. This software is for people who are beginning computer users, English as a second language folks and those with low literacy or have difficulty reading.
  • ZoomText software for those with low vision.
  • Read & Write software for those who have difficulty reading or have difficulty using a keyboard. You can use MS Word to create documents and use the internet using this software.
  • OmniPage Pro software is used in combination with a scanner to read back a document audibly to the user.
  • Large type keyboard for those with low vision.
  • FM Receiver - Used by those with impaired hearing in a classroom to hear the teacher.
  • One handed keyboard
  • Telephone amplifier - one of our telephones has an amplifier for the hearing impaired.
  • Trackball - used by those who have difficulty using a mouse.
  • CCTV - Used by those with low vision to read books or documents.
  • Ergonomic Keyboard
